Chatto 'Bird' Pinot Noir 2019
Region: Pipers River, Tasmania
One of the occupational hazards of being a farmer/winemaker is that you are subject to the vagaries of the vintage.
During the harvest of 2019 in the southern sub-region of the Huon Valley, Jim Chatto's vineyard was subjected to smoke taint so Jim sought out fruit from unaffected areas across Tasmania. This wine was born from the Bird vineyard in Pipers River in the far north of the island. Jim designated the quality high enough to release this as a one-off single vineyard cuveé.
It's a more skeletal, structural expression of Tasmanian Pinot Noir and will look brilliant with a little more time in bottle.
